Chart Queen
Sorry, Iggy, you just weren’t fancy enough. And Taylor, you left things shaken, but not really stirred. By the way, Katy, you can ride your dark horse straight outta Dodge.
It turns out Meghan Trainor is shaping up to be the Queen Of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014, as her debut single “All About That Bass” racks up an eighth week at #1 on the chart - the longest reign for a female artist in 2014. In fact, if Meghan can hang for just two more weeks at the top, she’ll tie the 10 week stretch of the year’s longest-running #1, Pharrell Williams‘ “Happy.”

As for splashy debuts, “All About That Bass” is now one week shy of the nine-week stints at #1 by Kesha‘s own breakout single, “Tik Tok,” and Carly Rae Jepsen‘s first single released in the United States, “Call Me Maybe.”
Of course, many ladies have had lengthy stretches at the top of the main singles chart. Just a handful of those who’ve spent 10 weeks at #1: Beyonce (“Irreplaceable”), Ashanti (“Foolish”), Olivia Newton-John (“Physical”), Debby Boone (“You Light Up My Life”) and the McGuire Sisters (“Sincerely”). Beyonce actually did one better as part of Destiny’s Child when “Independent Women Part I” stayed on top of the Hot 100 for 11 weeks.
Meanwhile, Brandy and Monica duked it out at #1 for 13 weeks with their joint single “The Boy Is Mine,” and let’s not forget Whitney Houston‘s epic Bodyguard cover of “I Will Always Love You,” which was a chart-topper for 14 weeks between 1992 and 1993.
As for the longest stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, that goes to Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, whose “One Sweet Day” logged 16 weeks at #1 beginning in early December 1995.
