FLOTUS Michelle Obama Sparkles At Congressional Black Caucus Awards

Robert Townsend Sharon Leal Black Congressional Phoenix Awards FLOTUS Michelle Obama Sparkles At Congressional Black Caucus Awards

First Lady Michelle Obama sparkles as she walks the stage at the 42nd Annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Phoenix Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C. If this dress looks familiar, well, it is. The FLOTUS wore this same floor length Michael Kors gown back in June to the Presidential Medal of Freedom Awards. Who knew a belt could make such a difference.

Selena Gomez Gets Scared (Twice!) On ‘Ellen’

Selena Gomez Scared on Ellen

Scared-lena!

Tip: If you ever end up as a guest on The Ellen Degeneres Show, don’t tell Ellen at you love to be scared. That was the mistake that Selena Gomez made when she appeared on the program to chat about her boyfriend Justin Bieber (and their frequent trips to amusement parks), her new film Hotel Transylvania and a few other bits of small talk. But when Selena confessed that she loves scary rides, Ellen seized the opportunity to make the Teen Choice Awards winner jump out of her seat when a chainsaw-wielding monster crept up behind her.

Better still, DeGeneres managed to frightened her again later in the interview - when a second villain startled her from behind. Guess Selena didn’t learn her lesson. Watch the first scare above, and the second video after the jump.

Fashion faux pas Friday: Emma Watson, and then Natalie Portman’s hemline

Vote ‘em! Yay or Nay to Emma Watson’s dress with cigarette pant combo from Raf Simon’s fall 2012 couture collection for Dior? We actually love the look, worn here exactly as the model had it presented on the runway (also pictured below). What’s your say?

Yay or Nay: Emma Watson wears Dior fall 2012 couture pants with dress (intended as a peplum?) to a special screening of The Perks of Being The Wallflower in London

Raf Simons blew the fashion world away and away with his outstanding take on Dior Couture for fall 2012. Here, the top is more peplum than dress as it (unfortunately?) appears on Emma Watson

Take Our Poll

And while we’re here comparing Hollywood starlets with Raf Simon’s vision for fall 2012 in Dior Couture, how about this hemline situation on Natalie Portman earlier this week?

A few lucky celebs have had the opportunity to dip into the season’s Couture collections and Natalie Portman was caught on cam in a sparkly number by the couturier.

The spectacular gown is meant to be tea length, which is to say mid-shin as shown below left on the model at the runway show, but here on Natalie’s 5’2″ frame we see it skims the floor:

Natalie Portman (left) wears what is intended to be a tea length gown by Raf Simons for Dior Couture fall 2012. Which length do you prefer? I actually think the tea length looks really fantastic here and showing the angle lightens the visual load of this bottom-heavy dress

Lana Del Rey Poses For The New Jaguar F-TYPE

Vroom Vroom

View the Gallery / 4 Photos »

Lana Del Rey didn’t just lend her voice to the new Jaguar F-TYPE ad campaign, she’s lent her face as well. Yes, that same gorgeous mug that makes us want to run out and buy H&M’s entire fall collection is pimping the luxury two-seat convertible. The Born To Die siren posed in her signature white dress both on and in the F-TYPE, shot in front of the breathtaking Mus e Rodin in Paris where LDR performed “Burning Desire” live on Wednesday (September 26).

Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director of Jaguar, commented, "Jaguar is a founder member of the sports car segment with a rich sporting bloodline stretching over 75 years, and in the F-TYPE we've reignited that flame.” And really, is there a pop star alive better to reignite a flame than Lana?

‘The Voice’: Hey Monday’s Cassadee Pope Joins Blake Shelton’s Team

Cassadee Pope The Voice Torn Hey Monday Season 3 2012

Will This Be Cassadee's Big Break?

"It is now time to bring it as a coach," Blake Shelton said wisely as the The Voice opened Tuesday night. And bring it they did, as he and his cohorts Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green took their seats for the seventh round of blind auditions in the same outfits as nights one through six. We'll stop harping on that now, as it's officially beyond ridiculous.

Tonight had some disappointments, of course, as 55-year old cruise-boat-entertainer-turned-school-bus-driver Yolanda Barber failed to make it, despite her professional-sounding, throaty voice. It also had one of this season's more awkward moments, when the coaches mused that they were shocked to discover that high-pitched IJ Quinn was actually a man...while he was still on stage. Nothing like rubbing salt in a fresh ego wound. Luckily for everyone involved, that awkwardness was short-lived: no one wanted IJ. Them's the breaks on The Voice, where rejected contestants can just count themselves lucky that they didn't also have to endure a brutal review from Simon Cowell.

With the above-mentioned lows came the highs, as both pop stars and heartthrobs did make it to the next round. The coaches sifted their way through the talented bunch that auditioned on Tuesday's episode, and continue to fill their teams.

Sylvia Yacoub, 19, Muskegon, MI
The night starts off with fiery pop singer Sylvia Yacoub. She was born in Egypt, but her dad brought the family to America so she and her sisters could enjoy the same freedom as men. "There are no second chances," she tells herself as she takes the stage, clearly unaware of this season's second timers Dez Duron and Daniel Rosa. Sylvia's performance of Rihanna‘s "Only Girl in the World" by Rihanna starts off a little shaky and is pitchy throughout, but Christina (after much physical deliberation), Blake and Cee Lo all think they can work with her voice. The hopeful singer selects Christina, who sums up the true essence of Sylvia's realization of her American dream as only Ms. Aguilera can: "You have my dream hair."

Charlie Rey, 20, Long Beach, CA
The judges may have swooned over Dez Duron in yesterday's episode, but we have a new Voice crush today: Charlie Rey. Charlie works as a smog technician with his dad, because he doesn't want his pop to inhale that much carbon monoxide. Clearly, the rest of us are terrible children. He even says he's blessed that he can work with his dad. Oh - and he's a physically beautiful specimen. We're kind of obsessed even before his performance. As if we weren't swooning enough, Charlie performs a raspy "Home" by Michael Buble that gets both Blake and Adam to turn around. He's got the Buble vibrato, he's got the falsetto - and he's got enough charisma to start a pissing match between Blake and Adam over who is the better coach. Ultimately, Shelton wins when he breaks out the “come to Jesus Blake” open arms. Heading backstage, Charlie tearfully says, "I have to go give my dad the biggest hug ever," leaving us all jealous of Mr. Rey.

Amanda Brown, 27, The Bronx, NY
Amanda Brown grew up listening to gospel, but knew she wanted to pursue secular music when she heard Radiohead for the first time. Amanda's song choice - the Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson version of "Valerie" - doesn't do much to showcase her technically strong voice. She never falters, but also doesn't hit any type of wow factor until the end, which gets a last minute spin from Cee Lo. We don't know if Amanda is as jazzed about Cee Lo as he is about her, because she says that thing we tell anyone who was recently dumped: "Everything happens for a reason." Ouch. Lady Bird, on the other hand squawks her approval.

Cassadee Pope, 22, West Palm Beach, FL
We knew she looked familiar when she walked in! Cassadee Pope, former lead singer of pop rock band Hey Monday struck out on her own a couple of months ago, and it has been a humbling experience. Cassadee, who counts Pete Wentz as a mentor (he even shows up on the awkward Sprint tablet moment of the night to wish her good luck), hopes The Voice will help establish her as a solo artist. Now, the show hasn't been much of a comeback vehicle for former pros this season - lest we forget Chris Trousdale from Dream Street or Cupid of "The Cupid Shuffle" fame - but Cassadee's got the goods. She sings "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia (hear her studio version, which we premiered earlier this year). All four coaches agree and press their buttons, ready to fight for her. Blake, who uses unreasonable math, tells Cassadee, "I believe with 200% of my heart that you, Cassadee, are a superstar," and wins her over. The rest of the coaches then stare at Blake with abject hatred.

We end with two spots remaining on each of the coaches' teams, and the promise of more bickering when blind auditions continue next week. Based on the attempted career re-launches thus far, who knows what former band members or one-hit wonders we'll see in auditions? Tiffany? Lou Bega? Sisqo? You never know with this show.

You know what you won't see, though? Guys in in the audience. Here's a fun game to play during next episode of The Voice: pause your DVR during any crowd shot. There will not be more than one man on the screen. If there is, you probably accidentally recorded Monday Night Football. It happens.

Usher & Jennifer Hudson To Perform At Whitney Houston Tribute Concert

Jennifer Hudson and Usher are among the high profile singers who will perform at the televised Whitney Houston tribute concert “We Will Always Love You: A GRAMMY Salute to Whitney Houston” on October 11. The special takes place at the Nokia Theatre in LA next month and will air as part of a one-hour special on CBS in November. R. Kelly is expected to perform as well, most likely for a live rendition of the slightly disappointing duet version of “I Look To You”, which appears on the compilation I Will Always Love You - The Best of Whitney Houston (out November 13).

Madonna Calls Obama A “Black Muslim,” Confuses Us All

Madonna Calls Obama a Muslim

OBAMA x MDNA?

Every so often, a pop star opines about politics in a way that’s well-informed, nuanced and demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of the issues at play. But with election season rolling around, it’s time for pop’s finest to start delivering confusing, off-the-mark and inexplicable political commentary. Now that Nicki Minaj has already scratched that itch, another diva has taken her spot: Madonna! (Maybe Nicki’s propensity for poorly-executed political self-expression rubbed off on Madge during the “Give Me All Your Luvin’” video shoot?) Click above to see the video, then read on below for more details.

Madonna's mdna tour hits philly

11 Photos »

When Madonna’s MDNA tour stopped in Washington, D.C. on Monday night, Madonna took the opportunity to share her thoughts on the upcoming presidential race. It’s no surprise that she advocated for Barack Obama - but due to her confusing delivery, which seemed enthusiastic rather than sarcastic, it was hard to tell how serious she was being when she called the POTUS “the black Muslim in the White House.”

Given that she quickly followed up by noting that he’s “fighting for gay rights,” it’s safe to assume that she was being sincere. It’s just not clear whether she actually thinks that Obama is Muslim or not. Personally, we’re hoping the Queen of Pop has got to be smarter than that.

Second Kanye West Sex Tape Being Shopped Around: Report

kanye west kim kardashian

The first reports of a Kanye West sex tape described a 20-minute video featuring Yeezy and a Kim Kardashian lookalike. Now there’s another Kanye sex tape being shopped around, according to TMZ. The site’s sleuths claim the video features 40 minutes of “constant action,” though there’s no word on whether this one features a Kim doppelganger.

If the tapes are released to the public, Kanye is reportedly ready to unleash his legal team. Plus, he can always get some damage control advice from Kim. Frankly, we’re just fine if these tapes are never released, if only because we like to assume that Kanye soundtracks his lovemaking sessions with his own albums.

After Fiona Apple’s Rant, Sheriff’s Department Tells Her To “Shut Up And Sing”

Fiona Apple performs at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas

We’ve already heard Fiona Apple‘s onstage response to her marijuana arrest in Texas, but we’ll refresh your memory with some highlights: she said she wrote down the details of the “inappropriate and probably illegal” things the cops did to her, then tore up the paper but not before encoding it and putting it in two lock boxes. She threatened to make the policemen “fucking famous” by releasing the information to the public in the future.

Now the sheriff’s department has penned a response to her response which starts off with the acerbic “First, Honey, I'm already more famous than you, I don’t need your help” and ends with the even more acerbic “just shut-up and sing.” Read on for the full letter.

The statement continued:

Two weeks ago nobody in the country cared about what you had to say, — now that you've been arrested it appears your entire career has been jump-started. Don't worry Sweetie, I won’t bill you…”

While we appreciate some good snarking, the career jump-start was in full swing thanks to her great Idler Wheel.. album. But yes, this has put her in the headlines, is the point.

Next, have you ever heard of Snoop, Willie or Armand Hammer? Maybe if you would read something besides your own press releases, you would have known BEFORE you got here, that if you come to Texas with dope, the cops will take your DOPE away and put YOU in jail…

Even though you and I only met briefly in the hallway, I don’t know you but I’m sure you’re an awesome and talented young woman and even though I’m not a fan of yours, I am sure there are thousands of them out there, and I'm sure that they would just as soon you get this all behind you and let you go back to what you do best-so my last piece of advice is simple ‘just shut-up and sing.’

Sincerely

Rusty Fleming”

Ouch! Guess you could say Rusty really took a bite out of Apple. (What, you’d rather have another “Criminal” joke?) Or maybe he’s just a Dixie Chicks fan. If you recall, “shut up and sing” was the exact phrase a Texan hurled at lead singer Natalie Maines following the group’s 2003 statement, “We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States [George W. Bush] is from Texas.” The phrase would later become a lyric in the band’s “Not Ready To Make Nice” and the title of their 2006 documentary Dixie Chicks: Shut Up And Sing.

Rihanna’s Mysterious New Website Tells Us Nothing (Yet) About Her Seventh Album

Rihanna‘s not usually a girl who liked to tease - usually, she’s perfectly happy just laying it all out there for all the world to see. (Particularly when it involves flaunting her body.)

But the new website Rihanna7.com is all kinds of enigmatic, emblazoned with an “R” made up of words that don’t quite seem to be lyrics or a track list, exactly. They’re words commonly associated with Rihanna, such as references to her “Navy,” the word “roc,” the title of her upcoming single “Diamonds,” and even a random reference to a Talk That Talk track (“Red Lipstick”). What does it all mean?!?

There is some speculation that the website may indicate that Rihanna’s seventh studio album will be called, quite appropriately, 7. This may be, in which case Rihanna seems to be one-upping Beyonce‘s 4 (or, technically, three-upping her) by putting out almost double the number of LPs even though Bey’s been around a lot longer. But this kind of copycatting seems a little beneath someone as established as Ri Ri. (Plus, it just reminds us of the movie Se7en, which in turn reminds us of Gwyneth Paltrow‘s head in a box. Ew.)

More likely, the website is just a reference to the fact that this is Rihanna’s seventh album, with the actual title “coming soon” as promised. We bet at least a few track titles we’ll see on the album are buried in here, along with some lyrics, perhaps. But mostly, we think this is just a big ol’ tease to keep us salivating until “Diamonds” hits the airwaves on Wednesday.

Share your theories on the site’s meaning on Facebook or Twitter.
