Celebrities Pile Up the Acessories for Coachella

Coachella is not just a popular music fest, it's also widely known as one of the most fashionable events of the year. So, we were more than eager to do some style spotting while our favorite stars enjoyed the sun and music on Coachella grounds.

These celebrities, who were likely paid thousands of dollars for their appearance at the festival, piled up their accessories on their necks, wrists and fingers like there was no tomorrow. Because in this kind of free-spirited fashion/music affair - the more accessories you layer, the cooler you look.

While Camilla Belle opted for an ethnic-looking arm wrap to complement her tee-and-shorts outfit, both Alessandra Ambrosio and Kylie Jenner decorated themselves with layered necklaces, with Kylie braving a very bold piece that just effortlessly stood out from the fashionable crowd.

How to Edge Up an Outfit with Accessories Like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

When it comes to her off-duty style, supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley always has that effortless cool girl look. Wearing go-to pieces like dark jeans, a sweater, booties and a Givenchy "Antigona" Tote, Rosie worked LAX like it was a runway. And to further amp up the fierceness of her airport ensemble, she threw on a gorgeous studded Saint Laurent leather jacket that really stole the spotlight, don't you think?

Rosie accessorized her airport chic ensemble with a couple of jewelry pieces that we've been dying to get our hands on. The Jennifer Meyer nameplate necklace is a popular piece among celebrities and the Anita Ko panther ring is a sure but subtle way to boost the edginess of any outfit.

Finish the look with a gorgeous sunhat and a pair of incognito shades and you won't just look a little edgier, you might also start feeling a little bit cooler like this "It" Brit!

Terrain

Yesterday I went to Terrain, the gorgeous home and garden shop in Pennsylvania, after being a fan for years. The grounds are stunning, and I learned that people spend an average of TWO HOURS browsing the shop! (On average!) But I wasn't surprised: The flowers, linens, mustards, cookbooks, everything are so beautiful. Here are the two things I splurged on:

A velvet pumpkin (with a real gourd stem) to put on our mantle this fall.

Black sea salt. Wouldn't it look cool on baked potatoes?

Check out their online shop here, and thanks for the inspiration, Terrain!

The filming of Breathless

Last Friday, after I posted this smoochy photo from Breathless, I stumbled upon these amazing behind-the-scenes shots of the film, below. Have you seen the movie?

Would you date older?

Have you ever dated an older man or woman? I had never dated an older man before, but Alex is a whopping 13 years older than I am. At first I thought his age might be a deal breaker, but it's worked out (old movies, cooking skills, doesn't mind my under-eye wrinkles:).

Have you ever heard this funny trick? "Divide the older person's age in half, then add seven, and that's the biggest age difference you can have. So if you're 30, the youngest you can date is 22." It's actually a pretty good rule of thumb!

So, I'm curious: Have you ever dated an older man or woman? Much older? Would you rather date older or younger? How old would you go? Is your current partner older than you? I'd love to hear your thoughts...

(P.S. Btw, George Clooney is 50, so he's fair game for any of you older than 32 1/2!)

DIY wedding hair: Pretzel braid

I'm excited to share another hair tutorial! My friend (and hair genius) Caroline adores this gorgeous pretzel braid, which she says is easy enough for brides to do themselves. So, we met at our favorite wedding shop, and Jamie Beck took photos. Doesn't her hair look breezy and romantic?

Here are Caroline's steps, if you'd like to try it out...

"I have a friend who was an Irish dancer, and she would always wear her hair in amazing elaborate braids. This one is not-too-fussy (my favorite way to wear my hair) and would look so pretty for an evening wedding or outdoor summer party."--Caroline

1. Start by making two pigtails, using rubber bands. Make them a bit higher up on your head.

2. Braid both pigtails...

3. ...and secure ends with a rubber band.

4-6. Remove the top rubber bands from the pigtails.

7. Cross one braid over the other.

8. Starting with the braid that's now on top, create a sort of "C" shape and pin. It doesn't have to be precise; you just want to have a nice curved shape from the braid.

9. Make the same curved shape with the other braid and pin. Curve it up and over the top of the braid you just pinned down.

10. Ultimately, you want to get a nice sort of pretzel or knot shape from the two braids. Tuck the ends of both braids behind the knot and pin them down securely.

Voila! Isn't it gorgeous? Would you wear it to your wedding (or a summer party)? This is one of my favorite hair tutorials of all time! Please ask any questions in the comments below; the instructions are a little tricky...

P.S. Seven genius hair ideas.

In the wedding photos, Caroline's wedding dress is by Ivy & Aster from Lovely, a gorgeous bridal boutique in the West Village. Her jewelry is from her own line, Brvtvs, and her lip color is lipstick is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned.)

Galaxy nails

My darlings, have you ever tried galaxy nails? They're brainy, nerdy, playful and cool all at the same time--yet still elegant enough to wear to work. I keep spotting them on pretty ladies around our neighborhood. Here's how to get the cosmic look...

1. Get a dark blue nail polish for the base, plus a few lighter sparkly polishes (for stars and comets!). We went for Navy Baby, Laser, Spectrum and Diamonds.
2. Paint the dark blue on all your nails as the base layer.
3. Now layer the glittery colors over the dark blue, but over only parts of each nail. A swipe here, a dab there. Mix things up with each nail, since you want them all to look different.
4. Layer a lot, since, instead of your nails looking flat, you want to get that 3-dimensional look of a far-away galaxy, like you're gazing up at the night sky.

(My friend Caroline modeled, since she has prettier nails than I do. Her rings are from her own collection Brvtvs. Photos by Jamie Beck for Cup of Jo)

Fall dinner in a mug

Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup together in one glorious cup? As Alex would say, the mind boggles. Find the recipe here.

Have a fun weekend.

My sweets, what are you doing this weekend? Alex and I are heading off on our first trip without Toby--just for two nights. I'm really excited for some grown-up time (and cocktails), but just hope our little bunny doesn't miss me as much as I'll miss him! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few great links from around the web...

(Good) Will Hunting has a way with words.

Bill Cunningham seems like a truly sweet person.

The perfect sweater.

What is it about white fairy lights?

Genius Halloween costume: A pinata with a black eye!

Awww, the little darlings.

Oh, baby!

Beautiful bathrooms.

How adorable are these dancing models?

Biking with no hands!

This story broke my heart. What an amazing woman.

Shared room

How adorable is this idea for sibling's shared room? The duo wallpaper is definitely chicer than drawing a chalk line down the middle.
