Side Swept Hair Trend: How-To Wig Tutorial

side-swept-hair-trend-wig-tutorial

The Golden Globes and the SAG Awards both had one thing in common: the Side Swept hairstyle.

side-swept-hairstyle-trend-red-carpet

Even now as we enter New York Fashion Week, we've already seen models on the runway in one shoulder tresses; clearly this trend is in motion. Celebrities, models and designers have all been swept away with this easy to do hairstyle. And YOU TOO can have red carpet hair at home... we'll show you how!

We chose the Adriana wig for a few reasons. First of all, this synthetic hair wig comes with a beautiful ready-to-wear wave pattern that best matched the locks we saw on the red carpet. However, if you have a human hair or heat-friendly synthetic hair wig (or your own hair) you can recreate the curls using a 1" curling iron. Also, this wig has a lace front and a monofilament top. This type of cap construction is perfect for this hairstyle because it will give your side part the most realistic look.

This hairstyle is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Just follow the detailed steps below and give yourself a wig-over with this super easy tutorial.

What you'll need for the Side Swept hairstyle:

  • Adriana wig by Jon Renau (Note: Watch the product video on Adriana)
  • Bobby pins (2-4)
  • Hairspray (be sure to use the appropriate hair product for your wig, we used theStyle & Hold Synthetic Hairspray by BeautiMark)

Steps:

  1. Make a side part using a rattail comb.
  2. Sweep hair over the tip of your ear and let it fall over your natural hairline. This will conceal the edge of the wig.
  3. Pin hair to that side with bobby pins (crisscross the pins for the strongest hold). At this point you can apply some hairspray to tame flyways for a smooth finish.

And Voil ! You're done!

FIVE-MINUTE MAKEUP POP

Post + Photography by Amy Nadine, Graphic Design by Eunice Chun

Try this sweet and playful look and I guarantee you'll get so many compliments you'll get tired of saying thank you! It's incredibly easy to do and the act of simply lining your inner rim blue really pops the eye, but in a very wearable way. Here's how:

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Brow Shadow - I used Purely Pro Brow Shadow in Dark Brunette on my model Neelo above.
  • A Light Gold Shadow - Try Make Up For Ever Eye Shadow in Yellow Gold.
  • Your Favorite Blue (Aqua/Teal/Turquoise) Longwear Liner - I used Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Waterproof Liner in Amazonite Blue because it's gorgeous and really intense.
  • A Black Gel Liner - I used Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Liner in Black Ink because it's a classic liner that never fails.
  • A Blue (Aqua/Teal/Turquoise) Shadow - I used POP Beauty Eye Magnet Shade in Tantalizing Teal.
  • Your Favorite Mascara - I'm obsessed with Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara for the way it really separates and builds each lash.
  • A Pink Lip - I paired the eye with Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in Baby Pink because it's one of my most favorite long-lasting stains.

STEPS:

  1. Start by filling in your brows.
  2. Sweep the gold shadow all over your upper and lower lids.
  3. Gently pull down on your lower lid then line the inner waterline with the blue liner.
  4. Line your upper lashline with the black gel liner using an angled liner brush.
  5. Line your lower lashline with a matching blue eyeshadow (this also helps seal the inner waterline).
  6. Add a couple coats of mascara.
  7. Finish the look with the light pink stain. You can also add a pink cheek if you like a little flush.

RED LIPSTICK EVOLVED

Post + Photography by Amy Nadine, Graphic Design by Eunice Chun

Lipstick has come a long way since its moniker was coined in 1880! Not that I don't still love lipstick and plan on using it until the day I die... but in the last few years, new textures and finishes have emerged that have earned their keep along side of lipstick in our makeup drawers. Some last all day and never end up on your teeth, others are velvety and some are ingeniously matte and shiny at the same time! To really study them, I picked one color (a classic red) and one model (my sweet friend Sophia) to see how they compare and contrast. None look like a lipstick, even though all are just as pigmented and intense.

  1. Velvet Matte Pencil - There are many out there but this one started it all! If you haven't discovered NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil yet, you're missing out on one of the greatest lip products of all time. This shade is Dragon Girl, a gorgeous red that looks good on literally every skin tone. Line the perimeter first like you would with a lip liner then fill in the entire lip.
  2. Opaque Cream - This gem (MAC Lipmix in Red) has been the secret star of runways around the world and is as pigmented as a lipstick but a completely different texture and feel. Apply with a lip brush for precision.
  3. Liquid Stain - Prepare to die when you try Lime Crime's Velvetine Liquid Stain! It goes on like satin and then doesn't move until you take it off. It's super thin and isn't goopy. I used it on one of my clients who sings really close to the microphone and couldn't have it come off all over it if they accidentally touched and we never worried about it with this lovely! The shade above is Red Velvet.
  4. Velvet Lacquer - Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro (in the shade Hollywood above) has been having a major moment on the red carpet since its launch earlier this year. There's truly nothing like it. It feels like velvet going on and somehow is matte and shiny at the same time, if that's even possible!

By the way, if you came here from one of our social media channels asking which lippie created which lip, the answers are: 1-c. 2-d, 3-b and 4a!

A Good Time was had by All

A great evening at Castello Dal Pozzo. Costumes, masks, DJ's, flowing bars and lots of trendy people are the formula for a successful event.

The Carnival Party at Castello Dal Pozzo went off extremely well. The weather was relatively kind which made parking easier and people arrived throughout the evening, so no long queues at the entrance. The early birds came for Drinks and Buffet Dinner and then afterwards our great barmen worked wonders all evening, ensuring that all requests were met without delays and the vodka was kept flowing all night.

The DJays pounded out great dance music through to 3.00am, when the revellers were forced to go home reluctantly and shed their magnificent costumes. It was marvellous to see the effort that most people had put into their costumes, almost everyone was masqueraded and the theme, Past and Present, allowed lots of leeway for interpretation. It was interesting to see how many chose to come dressed in some variation of the 1950/60 Flower Power and Flower children. The future was not really represented, the Past went back to Greek Goddesses and Roman Centurions.

See you all in June for our mid summer night Revel.
