WARM IT UP!

We're in the dead of winter and Summer feels like ages from now. But we don't have to look like we've been living in a cave! Personally I prefer being pale and try to stay pale all year long. But every now and then I like to warm it up a little with a gorgeous bronze glow, and whenever I do, I never regret it! There's just something beautiful and healthy-looking having a hint of color, especially in the winter months. And this method of mixing a luminizer with foundation, highlighting under the eyes then contouring with the bronzer and pairing it with a smoky taupe eye and a tulip pink lip is a fresh way to keep it from looking oompa loompa. Here's how:

TOOLS:

• Liquid Foundation
• Liquid Luminizer in Kitten Shimmer for light to medium skin tones or Bronze Shimmer for medium to dark skin tones.
• Egg Sponge
• Liquid Highlighter
• Powder
• Bronzing + Highlighting Powders
• Peachy Gold Blush in Luster.
• Bronzy Taupe Shadow Stick in Almond.
• Brow Spoolie
• Mascara
• Intense Lip Balm Crayon in Fearless.

STEPS:

1. Pour a quarter-size of liquid foundation into the balm of your hand.
2. Pump a nickel-size of liquid luminizer into the foundation as demonstrated above.
3. Mix the two together by swirling with your finger.
4. Dampen the egg sponge and wring it out into a towel. Dip it into the mixture in the balm of your hand.
5. Stipple and smear it all over your face and neck to really blend it in.
6. Paint the liquid highlighter under the eye, and don't forget both sides of the inner eye area.
7. Pat it in with your ring finger.
8. Set everything with the powder. Don't forget to press, don't sweep, the brush!
9. Contour the lower half of the cheekbone, the temple, hairline and forehead, jawline and neck with the bronzing powder.
10. Highlight just above the cheekbone and the browbone with the highlighting powder.
11. Add a swirl of peach blush just above the apple of the cheek.
12. Trace the lid with the eyeshadow stick. You can include the crease if you wish but we didn't on Alyssa above.
13. Trace the lower lashline with the shadow stick as well.
14. Comb the lashes up and over with the spoolie.
15. Add a few coats of mascara.
16. Fill in the entire lip area with the tulip pink lip crayon.

FIVE-MINUTE MAKEUP POP

Try this sweet and playful look and I guarantee you'll get so many compliments you'll get tired of saying thank you! It's incredibly easy to do and the act of simply lining your inner rim blue really pops the eye, but in a very wearable way. Here's how:

TOOLS:

• Your Favorite Brow Shadow - I used Purely Pro Brow Shadow in Dark Brunette on my model Neelo above.
• A Light Gold Shadow - Try Make Up For Ever Eye Shadow in Yellow Gold.
• Your Favorite Blue (Aqua/Teal/Turquoise) Longwear Liner - I used Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Waterproof Liner in Amazonite Blue because it's gorgeous and really intense.
• A Black Gel Liner - I used Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Liner in Black Ink because it's a classic liner that never fails.
• A Blue (Aqua/Teal/Turquoise) Shadow - I used POP Beauty Eye Magnet Shade in Tantalizing Teal.
• Your Favorite Mascara - I'm obsessed with Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara for the way it really separates and builds each lash.
• A Pink Lip - I paired the eye with Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in Baby Pink because it's one of my most favorite long-lasting stains.

STEPS:

1. Start by filling in your brows.
2. Sweep the gold shadow all over your upper and lower lids.
3. Gently pull down on your lower lid then line the inner waterline with the blue liner.
4. Line your upper lashline with the black gel liner using an angled liner brush.
5. Line your lower lashline with a matching blue eyeshadow (this also helps seal the inner waterline).
6. Add a couple coats of mascara.
7. Finish the look with the light pink stain. You can also add a pink cheek if you like a little flush.

EDGE PERFECTION

Another oldie but goodie, this trick is your best friend for many reasons… it creates a sharp line, it has a lifting effect and it takes the pressure off you to even worry about applying it perfectly. And all you need is a baby wipe. Sold! Here’s how:

1. Before you apply foundation, start with a smoky eye. Hold the wipe from the side of your nose to the end of the brow. 99% of the time, this is the perfect angle for lifting and winging your shadow. If your eyebrow is on the shorter side, use the angle of the outside corner of your lower lashline to determine where you place the wipe.
2. Place your finger on the wipe directly to the side of the eyeshadow as seen above.
3. In one quick swoop, pull the wipe by dragging your finger from your bottom lashline to your brow.
4. Remove the wipe and you’ll see a perfect + clean edge!
5. Perfect the top corner by slightly rounding it out with a Q-tip.

You can end it there. Or… for even more drama, go back with a black kajal liner like the Physician’s Formula Shimmer Liner that I used on Sophia above (or a black liquid liner) and draw an exaggerated winged line using the edge as your guide.

WHY NOT?

This might not be for everyone but I know it made a lot of you light up inside! There are so many different variations of this too. You can make every other color rotate between metallic and matte finishes, you can repeat colors, you can do only two or three colors instead of all six… just let this be an inspiration to have some fun with your lids every now and then. Your friends will appreciate it! Here’s how:

TOOLS:

• I used these Lime Crime matte liquid liners on Carissa above.
• You could also try these gorgeous metallic versions here and here.

STEPS:

1. Determine which color to start with. I like a darker color on the lashline because it also defines your eyes, but the white shade at the lashline is fun too.
2. Then one after the other, start at your inner corner and slowly trace the lashline to the outer corner.
3. Go back over lines to try and make them even and smooth. Each time I added a new line, I had to go back to the line directly below it and add a coat.
4. Determine how much eye space you have left to decide how many colors you can showcase. We had to stop at 6 because we were already at the crease.
5. Wet a pointed Q-tip with water and erase any markings outside of the top line or line endings.
6. Add mascara and enjoy!
