Lana Del Rey Takes A Stab At Lady Gaga On Acerbic Diss Track “So Legit”: Listen

Lana Del Rey is known for musing about her daddy issues, but who knew the singer had beef with other artists? An unreleased demo titled “So Legit” has leaked, with the singer dissing Lady Gaga. In the track, she sings: “Stefani you suck / I know you selling 20 million / Wish they could've seen you when we boo'd you off in Williamsburg.” She also quips: “You're looking like a man, you're talking like a baby / How the fuck is your song in a Coke commercial, crazy / You called me the queen of the downtown scene, babe / How the fuck would you go switch it up and then replace me?” Whoa. Bitter much?

The demo is apparently four years old, around the time when Mother Monster made her (huge) break onto the pop scene with The Fame - before Del Rey’s bombastic debut Born To Die was released in 2012. Back in 2009, the two singers were handled by the same manager, Bob Leone, and played gigs together throughout Brooklyn. It seems like Lana, who went by her birth name Lizzy Grant at the time, coveted Gaga’s success as she struggled to find her own.

Diss tracks are supposed to be feisty and controversial, sparking a dialogue between artists (or at least among their fans). In the case of “So Legit,” Lana Del Rey misses the mark. Her unpolished, nails-on-chalkboard, pre-”Video Games” vocals plus the dismal lyrics, in the style of an angsty teenage girl fuming in her diary, compounded by the painfully boring piano melody - well, it all makes for an overall disaster.

It’s a shame: Lana’s an extraordinary lyricist who now has her own international superstardom, but the surfacing of the diss track doesn’t do her any favors. Looks like the diss is on you, Lana.

Listen below.
