GETTING SYMMETRIC CURLS

photos/post/graphic design: Kristin Ess

If I had a dollar for every time someone in my chair asked why they couldn't get their curls to look symmetric, I'd be a very wealthy woman. The trick to getting both sides to look the same is very simple but it's not something you would think of right away. When we use curling irons and wands, we often lower our elbows to make it more comfortable so our arms don't hurt. And that's fine, but it changes the angle of your iron. The real trick is to keep your angles the same on both sides. You'll have to learn to use your non-dominant hand or you'll have to put your hand up and over your head. You might say "um, duh" to the mirror method, but it's not as easy as it seems. Check your angles in the mirror next time you're curling and make sure (as you see in the photos above) that you're holding it at the same but opposite angle of the iron from one side to the other.

Try this and let us know if it helps!
