Bonnie McKee Hits The Studio In ‘Breaking Bonnie,’ Episode 5: Idolator Exclusive

Bonnie McKee Breaking Bonnie Episode 5

Behind The Bonnie

We’ve been getting to know the hugely talented Bonnie McKee through her video series Breaking Bonnie, but now we’re getting into the real good stuff: The music. (That’s what it’s all about, right?) In the latest episode of McKee’s web series, the hitmaker hits the studio to begin putting together her own album with a cadre of A-list collaborators - people like her boyfriend and creative partner Oligee (Adam Lambert, Christina Aguilera), Joakim Ahlund (Robyn, Kelly Clarkson) and, most intriguingly, Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue and the near-perfect Tegan and Sara album Heartthrob).

She also cites her major influences as Blondie, early Madonna and Paula Abdul - and in doing so, pulls off the nifty trick of getting us more excited for this record than anything else due this year. Watch up top.

Frank Ocean Covers ‘The New York Times’ Magazine: His 5 Best Quotes

Frank Ocean NYTimes Magazine Cover

Literal saint/destroyer of all things evil in the world Frank Ocean is on the cover of The New York Times magazine this week in a mesmerizing #longread, doing what Frank Ocean does best: Being a fearless visionary who doesn’t give a shit what anybody thinks about him, including the journalist hired to profile him for The New York Times! And yet, because it’s Frank Ocean, that doesn’t matter, because his dismissal of likability just adds to his charm. (In the case of Chris Brown, conversely, his ham-fisted efforts to be charming just make him more odious!)

Let’s look at a few of his best quotes from the story.

1. Frank Ocean doesn’t care if he’s unlikable, which is probably exactly what makes him so likable.

That s why image is so important, [Ocean] said. That s why you ve got to practice brevity when you do interviews like this. I could try to make myself likable to you so you could write a piece that keeps my image in good standing, because I m still selling this, or I could just say, My art speaks for itself.

2. Frank Ocean isn’t a big fan of music journalism.

Here s what I think about music and journalism: The most important thing is to just press play… All in all, I just don t trust journalists " and I don t think it s a good practice for me to trust journalists.

3. Frank Ocean has always been kind of a badass.

I got kicked out of every school I went to, Ocean said. The last school that kicked me out had a folder of [expletive] that I had done. They sent the folder in a manila envelope to my house.

4. Frank Ocean isn’t a big fan of his contract with his label, Island Def Jam.

“I don t know where to begin… I think ultimately the problem with it was that nobody was ready to act on anything, any of the language [of the contract], except the language to keep me in it.

5. Frank Ocean is incredibly profound.

We re talking about substances , but we forget how intoxicating things that aren t tangible, things that aren t chemical substances, are. You forget about it. I m saying, you know, love. Power. Money, which is power. Freedom. Honesty. Because that explicit truth I was talking about [his open letter on Tumblr] probably had the same effect [on me] as heroin does on some people.

Ginnifer Goodwin Bares Legs, Wears Shorts in 30-Degree Weather

Hot pants in cold weather! Ginnifer Goodwin threw caution to the wind when she got dressed for the Listerine 21 Day Challenge launch event in New York City Feb. 5. Despite the 30-degree temperature, the Once Upon a Time actress stepped outside wearing a blazer and shorts by Nonoo. Goodwin didn't seem to mind the snow flurries, as she happily smiled at photographers on her way inside the Gabarron Foundation Carriage House Center for the Arts.

Once the event began, the 34-year-old star kicked off the challenge by taking a swish of mouthwash, which triggered a $21,000 donation from Listerine to Oral Health America's Smiles Across America Program.

    PHOTOS: Guess the celebrity legs!

"I was really struck by Listerine's generosity," Goodwin told Us Weekly. "And on top of that, everybody who signs up on Facebook is going to trigger an additional donation on behalf of Listerine. It's such an inexpensive investment -- it takes a couple extra seconds of your day."

PHOTOS: Meet the cast of ABC's Once Upon a Time

Her promotional duties aside, Goodwin also revealed why Valentine's Day will be a family affair for her and boyfriend Josh Dallas, whom she met on the set of Once Upon a Time. "My mother and my stepfather are coming to visit me in Vancouver. We'll be shooting until April," the actress explained. "I'm sure we'll cook a meal at home."

PHOTOS: Costars who fell in love

Rest assured, the meal Goodwin prepares for her loved ones will be a healthy one. "I can safely say that other than macaroni and cheese, there's no processed food in my life. There's no inorganic food in my life these days," she told Us. "There's no junk food. There's not a lot of sugar. There's no soy. I mean, really everything that's going into my body is pretty pure."

Tiffani Thiessen Awkwardly Reunites With Dennis Haskins, Saved by the Bell's Mr. Belding

  • Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Awkward! Fans may be clamoring for a Saved by the Bell reunion, but if Tiffani Thiessen's reaction to a surprise visit from her former TV principal, Dennis Haskins, is any indication, Kelly Kapowski will not be part of it. At least, not by choice.

PHOTOS: Saved by the Bell stars: Where are they now?

Thiessen, 39, who currently stars on USA's White Collar, was not feeling the love when Haskins, 62, stopped by the TODAY show during her Feb. 5 guest appearance. She played along when the set was transformed to resemble Bayside hangout The Max, and when anchor Natalie Morales challenged her to a '90s trivia game -- but she couldn't hide her discomfort when Principal Belding walked in quoting his famous catchphrase: "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What is going on here?"

"Can I just say hi real quick?" Haskins asked Al Roker as he extended a friendly hand toward Thiessen, who barely managed a half-hearted smile for her former costar. Sensing the awkwardness between the two, Morales piped in: "Tiffani's in shock!"

PHOTOS: '90s TV stars, then and now

Perhaps not surprisingly, Thiessen was the main holdout when Jimmy Fallon tried to get the Bayside gang back together on his late-night show in 2009. She even filmed a Funny or Die video in which she listed all of the reasons she couldn't make it. Among the (mostly fictional) activities on her "to do" list ahead of reuniting with her former cast mates? Working with NASA on a new fuel cell for the next space shuttle, singing in an Indigo Girls tribute band, training for the UFC tai chi competition, and looking hot while sitting by her pool.

    PHOTOS: Celebrity yearbook pictures

Haskins, on the other hand, is more than eager to stage a meet-up with his ex students. "I've kind of carried the banner for Saved by the Bell for a bunch of years, because -- let's face it -- I'll be Mr. Belding for the rest of my life," Haskins told Today.com, adding that he has stayed in touch with Mario Lopez and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played A.C. Slater and Zack Morris, respectively. (Incidentally, Lopez and Haskins ran into each other at a 1990s-themed bash in West Hollywood on Jan. 31.)

"I have always supported a reunion of any kind including all of us," he told TMZ recently. "Honestly, the fans still love us and our show so much...They deserve it!"

Fashion Week Mad Libs with Tracy Reese!

Tracy Reese has received the ultimate stamp of approval from First Lady Michelle Obama–and her daughter Sasha. She can’t get through fashion week without her team (but a lot of coffee helps, too).

Naomi Campbell On Her Reality TV Debut and Why the Winner of The Face Will Actually Make It as a Model

A different The Face. But, still.

If you haven’t heard, yet another modeling competition show called The Face is about to make its debut and it has a few big names behind it: ANTM cast-off Nigel Barker, Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova, and Naomi Campbell. Campbell hopped on a conference call with me and some other journalists to chat about her new gig. Yes, I got to listen to Naomi Campbell talk on the phone for an hour. It was pretty unreal.

The Face is basically to America’s Next Top Model what The Voice is to American Idol (except, erm, without the blind judging). Instead of collectively judging a big group of girls, each model coaches her own small team of girls. It sounds promising and, you know, if Naomi Campbell is involved, it can’t be all bad.

Read on for what Naomi had to say about why she agreed to do the show, her “harsh” judging style, getting along (or not?) with her fellow coaches, and diversity in the modeling industry.

Naomi is not Tyra Banks and has never seen America’s Next Top Model:

Well first of all I am different, I'm before Tyra and I have a lot of respect for Tyra and what she's done with America's Next Top Model and what she's done for young women out there who want to be in the fashion industry. I don't like to compare anything that I do. I've not really watched [ANTM] but from what I know it's a different type of format.

    Her coaching style? Tough love:

I'm very honest, and I'm quite tough with my girls because I won't be with them to hold their hands going to castings and going out there in the real world….I'm tough love but I care very much about my girls and I want them to get as much out of me as possible.

She, Karolina and Coco are mentors, not judges:

We're not judges. What it is, is the clients, the brands that we bring on–they decide, which is how it is in the real world of modeling. What attracted me was the mentoring side of it. I've been asked for many years to do television, but I didn't feel comfortable telling someone, you're not right, you're not this.

She’s not there to make friends:

For me, it’s a competition even between the coaches. We each are very different and in different places in our careers. I've been doing it longer than both Karolina and Coco together; we all have our different approaches. You'll see that we mentor our girls in a very different way. I get along with both the girls; but at the end of the day, this is a competition and I do realize that we have someone's career in our hands that is going to win this competition who is looking at us and hoping they can get into the world of modeling in the right way and get the right exposure.

She thinks the winner of The Face will actually have a career after winning The Face:

I definitely think she will be seen; she will be known across America…She fits the criteria; she looks like a model; she is a model; she has that extra little something we talk to our girls about having to have.

She’s disappointed by the lack of diversity in modeling:

In terms of diversity, it’s an ongoing subject we could sit here and talk about forever. I like to always stay optimistic. I pray every fashion week. I do see a lot of the young models of color out there and when they come to me and say, ‘They didn't want me because of [my skin color],’ it hurts. I feel I worked so long in this business and I hoped it would make it easier, so I get disappointed when I hear something. We're in 2013. It shouldn’t be happening; we have Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. I hope we're going to see a lot of women of different colors and cultures up on the runways because the world has changed with the countries that are now emerging markets.

The Face debuts Tuesday, February 12 on Oxygen.
